Stafford is southwest of Houston. It is mostly in Fort Bend County, with a small part in Harris County. From above, the city is defined by major roads. The Southwest Freeway crosses it diagonally, other arterials form a coarse grid, and the land between them is split into large commercial parcels and quiet neighbourhoods with curving streets and cul-de-sacs.
Stafford is known for having no city property tax, which it abolished in the 1990s and has kept since. The map reflects a typical Gulf Coast suburb: flat ground, drainage bayous cutting through, and a mix of office parks, warehouses and homes. The city is small in area, but its edges are clearly marked by the roads around it.
