Suárez is a municipality in Colombia's Cauca Department, in the foothills of the Andes. On a map, its most striking feature is the Salvajina reservoir, formed by a dam on the Cauca River. It fills a long, branching valley, and its fingers reach into side ravines.
The town itself is small, with a compact grid of streets near the water. Roads wind with the terrain, following ridges and hillsides rather than straight lines. Beyond the centre, the landscape is steep and green, with scattered rural settlements linked by mountain tracks.
