Tirebolu lies on the Black Sea coast of Giresun province in northeastern Turkey. From above, the town is shaped by a small headland pushing into the sea. The older streets crowd onto this promontory and the slopes behind it, and the coastal highway follows the shoreline in a long, steady curve. Behind the town, the land rises steeply.
A medieval castle stands on the rocky point by the harbour, one of the town's best-known sights. The hills inland are covered with hazelnut orchards and tea gardens, and Tirebolu is known for its tea production. On the map, roads climb those slopes in tight bends, which contrasts with the strong horizontal line of the coast.
