Tirorā lies in Gondia district in the far east of Maharashtra, a lowland region known for rice farming and its many irrigation tanks. On a map the town forms a compact centre of streets beside a railway line. Around it lie a patchwork of paddy fields and the irregular shapes of lakes and ponds.
Gondia and neighbouring Bhandara are known for their many lakes and tanks, built over generations to store monsoon water for farming. Near Tirorā stands a large coal-fired thermal power station. Its buildings, reservoirs and rail sidings appear as bold, geometric forms among the fields.
