Titusville stretches along the western shore of the Indian River Lagoon on Florida's Space Coast. That north-south orientation dominates the map. A riverfront road follows the water, a street grid sits back from it, and bridges and causeways cross the lagoon to Merritt Island and the Kennedy Space Center beyond.
Because the launch complexes sit directly across the water, Titusville has long been one of the best places to watch rockets lift off. The town grew quickly with the space program in the 1960s. Much of the land to the east is protected as the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, which appears as open space with few roads.
A Titusville map poster frames the town between two very different surfaces: the orderly streets of the mainland, and the broad, empty expanse of lagoon and refuge. The causeways are thin lines stretched across the water. They are a simple reminder of how short the distance is between everyday life here and the launch sites.
