Torūr is a town in eastern Telangana, on the Deccan plateau between Warangal and the Krishna basin. From above it has the typical form of a regional market town. A few roads converge on a central area of shops and houses, and the built-up area thins out quickly into agricultural land.
The surrounding landscape is shaped by tanks, the man-made reservoirs that have irrigated this part of the Deccan for centuries. On a map they appear as irregular water bodies scattered among the fields, each with its own embankment and channels. Their shapes add a softer, organic element to the rural road network.
