Tozeur is an oasis town in southwestern Tunisia, on the northern edge of the Chott el Djerid, a vast salt flat that stretches toward the horizon. The town depends on its springs and on the great palm grove they feed, one of the largest in the country and famous for its dates.
From above, the map divides into three distinct textures: the tight, irregular streets of the historic Ouled el Hadef quarter, the broader newer streets of the modern town, and the dense, soft pattern of the palm grove with its paths and irrigation channels. To the south, the salt flat leaves a vast empty expanse.
A Tozeur map poster also recalls the town's cultural and film connections. The old quarter is known for its patterned brickwork, the poet Abu al-Qasim al-Shabbi was born here, and the desert around Tozeur has served as a location for several films, including scenes from Star Wars.
