Trappes is a town in the Yvelines department, west of Paris. It is part of the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines new town area. On a map, the town is split by infrastructure. Wide railway lines and yards run through it, and a major trunk road crosses it too. The neighbourhoods fall on either side of these barriers, linked by a few bridges and underpasses.
The town's modern shape comes from its role as a railway hub and from postwar housing construction. Large residential estates contrast with the older centre and smaller houses. Several well-known French personalities grew up in Trappes, including the actors Omar Sy and Jamel Debbouze. As a result, many people in France recognise the town's name.
