Tríkala Map Poster & Print
Tríkala sits on the western edge of the Thessalian plain, where the ground is almost perfectly flat. On a map the town is drawn around the Lithaios, a narrow river that runs through the centre and is crossed by a series of short bridges. Streets follow it on both banks, so the waterway becomes the line the rest of the plan is read against.
North of the river the ground rises into a small hill topped by the Byzantine fortress. Below it lies Varousi, the old quarter, where the streets are tighter and bend with the slope. Further out the blocks turn more regular, and past the last houses the roads run straight into open fields. The Pindus mountains and the rock pillars of Meteora are a short drive to the northwest.
A Tríkala map poster shows a town that has kept a human scale. Tríkala is linked with ancient Trikke, which tradition names as a birthplace of Asclepius, the god of healing. In more recent years it has become known in Greece for its bicycle paths and early work on digital city services. On paper you see the river, the hill and the plain.

Fortress hill
A low hill north of the centre carries the Byzantine castle. The street grid thins and curves around its slopes, leaving a quieter patch of the map.
Varousi quarter
The old neighbourhood under the castle keeps a close, irregular pattern of lanes, easy to tell apart from the straighter blocks laid out in the newer parts of town.
