Trikonavattam lies close to Kollam in the south of Kerala, in the green, densely settled lowland between the Arabian Sea and the Western Ghats. Like much of coastal Kerala, it has no sharply defined centre. On the map, houses and lanes spread continuously across the landscape along small roads that curve around plots, ponds and patches of greenery.
Water shapes the wider area. Kollam sits on Ashtamudi Lake, a large backwater with many arms, and canals and streams run through the lowland. Settlements here merge into one another, so a map of Trikonavattam reads less like an isolated town and more like part of a continuous, lived-in landscape.
