Tulungagung Map Poster & Print
Tulungagung is the administrative centre of a regency of the same name in the south of East Java, on fertile lowland within the wider Brantas basin. From above, the town forms a dense core around a traditional alun-alun, the open square at the centre of so many Javanese towns. From there, streets run outward into villages and irrigated fields.
A river winds through the urban area, and the map picks up its curves against the straighter roads leading toward Blitar, Kediri and Trenggalek. Beyond the built-up edge the pattern changes to narrow lanes running between paddies and settlements. To the south, the land rises toward the limestone hills that separate the town from the Indian Ocean coast.
The town is widely known for its marble and onyx workshops, a craft built on stone quarried in the southern hills of the regency.
