Ulm Map Poster
Ulm sits on the north bank of the Danube, directly across from Neu-Ulm in Bavaria, so the river is both a city edge and a state border. From above, the old town is a dense cluster of streets around the minster, with the small river Blau splitting into channels through the Fischerviertel before it joins the Danube. Bridges link the two cities across the water.
Ulm Minster has the tallest church steeple in the world, reaching about 161 metres, and its square is the centre of the old town. Albert Einstein was born in Ulm in 1879. The fishermen's and tanners' quarter, with its narrow lanes, half-timbered houses and water channels, is one of the most distinctive parts of the historic centre.
