Urachiche is a town in the Venezuelan state of Yaracuy, in the agricultural country west of San Felipe. On the map it forms a compact grid of streets, the layout found in many Venezuelan towns. At the edges the blocks become looser and give way to farm tracks, field boundaries and the lines of small streams coming down from higher ground.
The town is also the seat of a municipality with the same name, and its outline shows that role. A few roads lead in from neighbouring towns and meet near the centre, while the rest of the street network stays even and regular. Beyond the last houses, the land is divided into irregular plots that make a varied texture around the orderly core.
Drawn only in line, Urachiche becomes a clear picture of how a Venezuelan valley town sits in its farmland.
