Urucurituba Map Poster & Print
Urucurituba is a town in the state of Amazonas, Brazil, set on the banks of the Amazon system east of Manaus. On a map, the water is overwhelming. Wide river channels, side arms, lakes and islands surround the town, and the built-up area is a small, compact grid on the firmer ground along the bank.
Life here follows the river's seasonal rise and fall, which floods large areas of the surrounding lowland for part of the year. Boats are the main link to other towns, so there are few roads beyond the edge of the settlement. The map is dominated by the rhythm of channels and land.
An Urucurituba map poster shows an Amazon town in its true proportions: a small cluster of streets against large, curving areas of water. In black and white, the winding shorelines and islands become an elegant, almost abstract pattern.

Floodplain lakes
Lakes and low islands spread across the floodplain, and their outlines change as the river rises and falls each year.
Riverbank grid
The town's streets form a small, regular grid on the bank, a clear, human-made shape against the natural flow of water.
