Uva is a settlement in the Udmurt Republic, west of Izhevsk. It is the administrative centre of its district. On the map, it looks like a clearing surrounded by forest. Streets of low houses are laid out in plain rectangular blocks, and dark woods press in from every side. The contrast between cleared ground and forest is the main feature of any view from above.
A railway runs past the settlement. Its long, gently curving line makes a strong mark across the grid of streets. Beyond it are smaller roads, field edges and tracks that lead into the forest. Rural Udmurtia is mostly forest broken up by settlements and farmland, and Uva fits that pattern clearly.
