Vadipatti lies in the Madurai district of Tamil Nadu, northwest of Madurai city on the main road to Dindigul. It is a modest town, and its map is built around that road, with shops and houses lining it and narrower residential streets branching off on either side. The Madurai–Dindigul railway also passes through, running roughly parallel to the highway.
The land around the town is largely agricultural, with paddy fields, groves and channels fed by the region's irrigation network. On a street map these appear as open space crossed by small roads and tracks. Low rocky hills rise in the distance and show up as empty patches on the map.
Madurai, known for the Meenakshi Amman Temple, is a short drive away, and Vadipatti belongs to the wider hinterland that supplies and serves the city.
