Venezuela is a town and municipality in Cuba's Ciego de Ávila Province, on the low plains south of the provincial capital. It shares its name with the South American country, which makes it easy to remember. On a map the town appears as a compact grid of blocks, set in flat agricultural land with almost no terrain to break up the pattern.
This part of central Cuba has long been sugar-cane country. The surrounding land is divided into large fields separated by straight roads and tracks, and the landscape has the regular, open structure typical of plantation agriculture. From the town, roads lead out toward neighbouring settlements and the provincial capital.
