Verrettes lies in Haiti's Artibonite department, in the valley of the Artibonite River, the country's longest river. The town sits on low ground near the river, with higher ground nearby. From above, the map shows a modest cluster of streets surrounded by irrigated fields and the curving line of the water.
The Artibonite valley is Haiti's main rice-growing region, and much of the land around Verrettes is fields watered by the river and its canals. The town serves the surrounding rural areas, where farming follows the seasons of the valley.
