Verukulambu is in Kanyakumari district, at the southern end of Tamil Nadu. This is one of the greenest parts of the state, with heavy rainfall and the foothills of the Western Ghats not far away. On a map, the settlement is spread out, with houses along winding roads rather than grouped into one compact centre.
The land around it is divided among paddy fields, coconut and rubber plantations, and small irrigation tanks. Villages merge into one another here, so the map shows a continuous, loose network of roads and scattered buildings instead of clear town boundaries.
