Vị Thanh lies deep in the Mekong Delta and was the capital of the former Hậu Giang province, now part of Can Tho City. From above, water matters more here than roads. The wide Xà No canal runs through the town, and a grid of smaller canals and ditches divides the surrounding land into long, narrow plots.
The Xà No canal was dug in the early twentieth century to connect this area with Cần Thơ. It opened the western delta to rice farming and river trade, and much of the town grew up along its banks. The flat, low land and the canal system give the area a geometric order that can only be fully seen from above.
A Vị Thanh map poster turns this water landscape into a study of parallel lines. The main canal forms a strong horizontal band, and the smaller waterways repeat in fine strokes across the paper. The built-up area gathers where roads and water meet. It is a calm image of a place shaped almost entirely by digging and farming.
