Vikramasingapuram lies in Tirunelveli district, Tamil Nadu, on the Tamirabarani river where it leaves the Western Ghats and enters the plain. On the map, the town is a close grid of streets near the river, with paddy fields and channels on the flat land and steep hills rising to the west.
The town grew around a large textile mill, long run by Madura Coats, which drew workers and shaped its layout. Nearby Papanasam, with its temple and waterfalls, is a well-known pilgrimage site, and the dams and forests further up the valley are part of the same landscape.
