Vileyka lies in the Minsk region of northwestern Belarus, on the Viliya River, which gives the town its name. On a map the river curves through the frame, and the town's streets spread out from its banks in a mix of older low-rise blocks and later housing estates.
Just upstream lies the Vileyka Reservoir, the largest artificial lake in Belarus, built to supply water to Minsk. Its wide, irregular surface stretches over a large area to the east, with forested shores and small inlets, and it is often called the Minsk Sea's larger neighbour.
Forest and farmland surround the town on the other sides, and a railway line passes through. A Vileyka map poster shows a river town beside a great body of water, a combination of flowing and still water that gives the map its character.
