Wangu is a town in the western part of the Chongqing municipality, in the hilly farmland of the Sichuan Basin. The landscape here is rarely flat: low hills, narrow valleys and terraced fields shape where roads and buildings can go, and the map shows a settlement fitted carefully into the available ground rather than laid out on a grid.
The town's streets tend to follow the contours, with a denser centre where several roads meet and looser development stretching along the routes that lead to neighbouring towns. Ponds, reservoirs and small streams are common in this part of Chongqing, and they appear on the map as scattered bodies of water among the fields.
