Section-line roads
Straight roads laid out along the old survey grid divide the area into large squares. They form a strong framework that holds the rest of the poster together.

Wasco Map Poster & Print
Wasco is an unincorporated community in Kane County, Illinois, in the Fox Valley on the far western edge of the Chicago region. From above it looks like the outer suburbs, where farmland and housing meet. Long, straight section-line roads mark the old agricultural grid. Between them are subdivisions of curving streets and cul-de-sacs, with ponds, open land and remaining fields in the spaces.
That contrast gives the map its character. The rectangular survey grid that divided Illinois into square-mile sections is still visible in the main roads. The residential streets inside each square follow their own softer logic. Nearby towns along the Fox River provide older downtowns, while Wasco keeps a quieter, more spread-out pattern.
A Wasco map poster shows a place defined less by a centre than by the pattern of its neighbourhoods. The sweeping curves of residential streets, the patches of water and open ground, and the straight country roads framing them make a surprisingly graphic composition, one that looks almost drawn by hand.

Curving subdivisions
Inside that grid, residential streets bend, loop and end in cul-de-sacs. The pattern is soft and flowing, a marked contrast to the rigid country roads around it.
Ponds and open land
Retention ponds, fields and green spaces break up the neighbourhoods. On the map they create pauses in the linework and give the design a lighter, airier feel.
