Wheaton is a community in Montgomery County, Maryland, north of Washington, D.C. From above, it is shaped by the meeting of three major roads: Georgia Avenue, University Boulevard and Veirs Mill Road. Around that intersection sits a commercial centre with the Westfield Wheaton shopping mall, while quiet residential streets of single-family homes spread in every direction.
Wheaton Metro station, on the Red Line, is known for one of the longest escalators in the Western Hemisphere, descending deep below the surface. To the east lies Wheaton Regional Park, a large green area that includes Brookside Gardens, with lawns, woods and water. It is one of the most distinctive features on the local map.
