Yongfeng is a county seat in central Hunan, in a landscape of rolling hills, rice fields and small rivers. On a map the town is a compact knot of streets, laid out wherever the terrain allows. Hills on several sides keep it contained, and roads follow the valleys out toward the surrounding villages.
Central Hunan is an old agricultural region, and Yongfeng has grown from a local market and administrative centre into a modest modern town. Its newer districts sit beside the older core. The difference shows on the map: the old streets are narrow and irregular, while the newer roads are wider and straighter.
