Yucca Valley sits in the high desert of the Mojave, in San Bernardino County, California. It is one of the main towns of the Morongo Basin, and on a map it looks unlike most American suburbs: a main highway running east to west, with a loose grid of streets and dirt roads stretching out over open desert on both sides.
Twentynine Palms Highway, State Route 62, is the town's main axis, carrying traffic towards Joshua Tree National Park to the east. Around it, houses sit on large lots, with rocky hills and washes shaping the edges of the built-up area. The Old West film set of Pioneertown lies a short drive into the hills to the northwest.
