The Baksan corridor
The Baksan River runs the full length of the town, and nearly every street lines up with it. On the poster, this gives Tyrnyauz a strong linear shape, closer to a long stroke than a round cluster.

Tyrnyauz Map Poster & Print
Tyrnyauz sits deep in the Baksan valley in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic, on the northern side of the Greater Caucasus. From above, the town does not spread outward the way lowland towns do. It follows the river instead, a long and slender settlement squeezed between steep slopes, with the road and the water running side by side through its whole length.
The town grew in the twentieth century around the mining and processing of tungsten and molybdenum ore, and for decades the combine shaped its life and economy. On a map, that industrial past shows as a compact pattern of residential blocks on the valley floor, with terraces and short lanes climbing where the ground allows. A Tyrnyauz map poster records a place defined by the mountains around it.
The valley road through Tyrnyauz leads further up toward the Elbrus area, so many travellers know the town as a stop on the way to the high peaks. Side streams come down from the slopes into the Baksan, and the town has lived with the risk of mudflows from them. Drawn in black and white, the terrain shows mostly through what is absent: open ground where building stops.

Blocks on the valley floor
Most of the housing stands on the narrow strip of flat land beside the river, in closely spaced blocks with a few short cross streets. Near the edges, the street pattern thins out and gives way to open slopes.
Road toward Elbrus
The main valley road enters at one end and leaves at the other, carrying traffic up toward the Elbrus region. It is the backbone of the map, the line every other street in town connects to.

რატომ Tyrnyauz
რუკა, რომელსაც მნიშვნელობა აქვს
For people who grew up in Tyrnyauz, worked at the combine or still have family in the valley, this map holds a very particular geography: a town you can walk end to end along a river. Climbers and skiers who passed through on the way to Elbrus may want it too, as a record of the approach.
The poster can be personalised with your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, so it can mark a birthplace, a family home or the date of a trip into the mountains. Choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Each one handles the long, narrow shape of the valley in its own way.
