Coos Bay is the largest city on the Oregon coast, on the shores of the estuary that shares its name. It was called Marshfield until 1944 and grew as a port shipping timber and lumber from the forests of the Coast Range. On a map the city is shaped by water: the bay curves around it, and tidal channels called sloughs reach inland like branches.
Downtown lies along the waterfront, where a regular grid of blocks meets docks and industrial land at the edge of the bay. Behind it, streets climb into wooded hills and become irregular as they bend with the slopes. Coos Bay merges with neighbouring North Bend to the north, where the long McCullough Memorial Bridge carries US 101 across the bay.
A Coos Bay map poster shows a place defined by its waterways. The bay and its sloughs create a complex, branching outline, and the contrast between the downtown grid and the rugged land around it adds depth to the print. The city is also known as the hometown of the runner Steve Prefontaine, who is still remembered in the town and far beyond.
The bay wraps around the downtown waterfront, lined with docks, wharves and industrial sites. Its strong, irregular shoreline defines the whole map.
Tidal sloughs reach inland from the bay in long, narrow fingers. They separate neighbourhoods and give the edges of the map a complex, organic outline.
The historic centre is laid out in a compact grid of blocks next to the water, in contrast to the winding streets that climb the forested hills around it.

Sooq Coos Bay
Coos Bay means different things to different people: a fishing town, a timber town, a first job at the port, a childhood by the water. A map of it, with the bay at its centre, is a strong and recognisable image for anyone connected to the southern Oregon coast.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line with a name or a date, and choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint suits a harbour city well. Download the HD files in six sizes, including 18×24″ and 24×36″, for $9, or order a printed poster.
