Old town lanes
Around Chorsu Bazaar the streets become short, bent and densely packed, a pattern older than any avenue in the city and the most intricate area on the poster.

Nunap assinga
Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan and the largest city in Central Asia, grew on an oasis watered by the Chirchiq River and a network of canals. From above, the map splits into two characters: the old town to the west, a dense grain of lanes around Chorsu Bazaar and the Khast Imam complex, and the newer city of wide avenues and large squares.
Much of the centre was rebuilt after the 1966 earthquake, which is why so many streets are generous and straight and so many blocks sit back behind trees. Amir Timur Square forms a hub of radiating roads, and the Ankhor canal runs through the middle of the city as a quiet green line. In 1977 Tashkent opened the first metro in Central Asia.
A Tashkent map poster captures that double nature without colour to soften it. The irregular old mahallas and the calm Soviet-era grid sit side by side, the canals cut diagonal lines through both, and the ring roads hold the whole composition together like a frame drawn inside the frame. It is a city whose plan tells its own history.
Around Chorsu Bazaar the streets become short, bent and densely packed, a pattern older than any avenue in the city and the most intricate area on the poster.
A round park at the centre with roads spreading out in several directions, forming one of the clearest radial shapes on the map and an easy point to orient from.
The canal winds through central Tashkent in a narrow line, followed by parks and footpaths, and links the old town and the new city across the drawing.

Sooq Tashkent
Tashkent means a great deal to the many people who were born there and moved away, across Central Asia, Russia and beyond. A map of the city's streets is a way to hang a whole childhood on one wall without a single photograph.
Write the title in the spelling you grew up with, add a family date as the subtitle, and edit the coordinates line if you wish. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, then download the HD files or order a printed poster.
