Constantine Map Poster & Print
Few cities have a site as striking as Constantine in northeastern Algeria. The old town stands on a rocky plateau almost entirely surrounded by the gorge of the Rhumel River, a deep, narrow cut that isolates the historic core on three sides. From above, the plateau reads as a tight island of streets with the chasm drawn around it like a moat.
Because of that gorge, Constantine is known as the City of Bridges. The Sidi M'Cid suspension bridge crosses high above the ravine, and the more recent Salah Bey cable-stayed bridge spans the valley on a longer line. The city itself is ancient: as Cirta it was the capital of the Numidian kingdom long before it took the name of the Roman emperor Constantine.
A Constantine map poster turns this geography into a clear composition. The dense medina fills the plateau, the gorge traces a winding gap around it, and bridges and roads jump across to newer neighbourhoods on the surrounding hills, which spread out in long curving streets that follow the slopes.

Bridge crossings
Several bridges, including Sidi M'Cid and Salah Bey, cross the gorge at different heights, drawn as short straight lines over the empty channel.
Plateau medina
The historic quarter packs narrow, irregular streets onto the rock, a dense core that contrasts with the looser hillside districts beyond.

Constantine's map explains the city better than any photograph, because the gorge and the bridges become immediately legible. It suits anyone with roots in the city or a fascination with places shaped this strongly by their terrain.
Personalise the title and subtitle, in Latin or Arabic script, and set your own coordinates line. Five styles are available: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand, with Noir making the gorge especially dramatic.
