Katima Mulilo is the capital of Namibia's Zambezi Region, located near the eastern end of the long, narrow strip of land once known as the Caprivi Strip. The town lies on the south bank of the Zambezi River, which forms the border with Zambia here. From above, the river is the dominant feature, a broad channel with islands and floodplains.
The town's streets spread back from the river in a loose grid, with the main road leading west toward the rest of Namibia.
