Nymburk Map Poster & Print
Nymburk stands on the Elbe, known in Czech as the Labe, in Central Bohemia, east of Prague. King Přemysl Otakar II founded it as a royal town in the thirteenth century. The historic core still holds its oval outline, bounded on one side by the river and elsewhere by the line of former fortifications. On a map, the old town reads as a tidy, walled island within the later growth.
The town is known for its Gothic brick architecture, which is unusual in Bohemia. Sections of the brick town walls survive, and the Church of St Giles rises above the rooftops. Nymburk also has a literary connection: the writer Bohumil Hrabal spent his youth at the town brewery, and his stories later made its streets familiar to readers far beyond the Czech Republic.
A Nymburk map poster brings together river, wall and railway in a single view. The Elbe curves past the old town, with side channels and weirs adding extra lines of water. The medieval plan, a central square with streets radiating out to the walls, sits at the heart of the frame. Around it, the railway town that grew in the nineteenth century spreads in straighter, more regular blocks.

The Elbe
The river sweeps along the edge of the old town, with branches and weirs that break its line into several parallel strands of water.
Railway district
Beyond the historic core, the town's role as a railway junction shows in straighter streets and the long parallel lines of tracks and sidings.
