The basilica hill
The church and its plaza occupy the high point of town, and the surrounding streets run up to it, making the hilltop the natural centre of the whole composition.

Taal Map Poster & Print
Taal is a town in Batangas province whose street plan still follows its Spanish colonial layout. Streets climb a hill from the lowland towards the church, forming a compact grid that loosens at the edges into farmland and small settlements. From above, the pattern is regular but not rigid, with blocks bent slightly to fit the slope, and roads running down towards the coast of Balayan Bay.
The town moved to its present site in the eighteenth century, after eruptions of Taal Volcano damaged the older settlement near the lake. On the hilltop stands the Basilica of St. Martin of Tours, often described as one of the largest churches in Asia, and around it survive many ancestral houses of wood and stone. Taal is also known for embroidery and for the balisong, a folding knife made by local smiths.
A Taal map poster turns this old town into a study of order on a slope. The streets gather around the church plaza, the grid thins towards the rice fields, and a river line marks the lower ground. The result is a calm, balanced image, well suited to the heritage character that visitors come to see.

A colonial grid
The old town keeps a regular pattern of blocks inherited from the Spanish period, adjusted gently to the slope so the lines curve slightly as they descend.
Towards Balayan Bay
Roads lead down from the heritage core towards the coast, and the map shows the settlement loosening into fields and scattered houses as it approaches the water.
