Ait Melloul lies just south of Agadir on the wide, flat plain of the Souss River. From above, it is a dense and mostly regular pattern of housing blocks cut by a few main roads. Most of these roads lead north toward Inezgane and Agadir, and the built-up areas of the three towns now meet. On the map, the separate municipalities look like one continuous urban area.

The Souss River runs close by. For much of the year its bed is wide and dry, and it appears on the map as a broad, braided channel. Around the town, the plain is divided into orchards, greenhouses and irrigated fields. This is one of Morocco's main farming regions, known for citrus and early vegetables. Argan trees grow on the drier land toward the hills, and the High Atlas rises further away.
