Bentung, also written Bentong, lies in western Pahang, just across the Titiwangsa Range from Kuala Lumpur. The Karak Highway climbs the hills from the capital and descends into the valley here, so on a map the town sits where a major road meets softer, lower ground surrounded by forested slopes.
The town is well known across Malaysia for its ginger and for durian from the surrounding orchards, and many people pass through on the way to the Genting Highlands. Its older centre is a compact set of shophouse streets, while newer housing spreads along the valley floor and up the lower slopes.
