Dizin lies in the Alborz Mountains north of Tehran, a few hours by road from the capital. On a map it is a small cluster of lodges and lift stations on an open mountainside, connected to the main Karaj–Chalus road by a winding branch road. The terrain around it is steep and treeless, with ridges and valleys running off in every direction.
Dizin opened in 1969 and is the oldest and best-known ski resort in Iran. It is also one of the highest in Asia: its base sits at around 2,650 metres, and its lifts climb well above 3,500 metres. The altitude gives it a long season, and its slopes are approved by the FIS for international competition.
