Mustafakemalpaşa lies in the western part of Bursa Province, on the river of the same name, which flows north toward Lake Uluabat and the Marmara lowlands. The town sits on a fertile plain. From above, its compact centre sits along the river, with fields and orchards laid out around it in a patchwork of plots.
The river is the town's main line. The older quarter sits beside it, and bridges connect the two banks, including a historic Ottoman stone bridge. On the Mustafakemalpaşa map poster the curve of the river and the tight streets of the centre are the focus, and the town fades into farmland toward the edges.
The town was known as Kirmasti until 1923, when it was renamed in honour of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. In Turkey it is especially known for a local cheese dessert that takes its name from the town. The surrounding plain is used for intensive agriculture, and that pattern fills much of the map.
