Nerviano lies in the flat, densely built plain northwest of Milan, between Rho and Legnano. The Olona river runs through the municipality, and the old Sempione road toward the Simplon Pass passes close by, so the town has long been part of the busy corridor between Milan and the lakes and Alps to the north.
From above, the historic core is a compact cluster of short streets near the river, surrounded by later residential blocks, industrial areas and the fields that still separate it from its neighbours. The Olona draws a thin, winding line through the map, cutting across the otherwise regular fabric of the Lombard plain.
