Pasir Puteh is a district town in Kelantan, on Malaysia's north-east coast. From above, it sits on the low, flat coastal plain, where rivers wind towards the South China Sea and paddy fields and villages spread in every direction. The town centre is small and compact, and roads run out from it towards the coast and the neighbouring districts.
The name means white sand in Malay, a nod to the sandy soils and beaches of the Kelantan coast. The district is largely rural. Rice farming, smallholdings and fishing villages shape the landscape, and the town serves as the local centre for markets, schools and administration.
