Pertuis is in the Vaucluse department, at the southern edge of the Luberon hills and north of the Durance River. From above, it is a typical southern French market town. A compact old centre of winding streets is surrounded by boulevards that follow the line of former walls, and newer neighbourhoods spread outward across the plain.
Pertuis is often described as a gateway to the southern Luberon, and the hills rise gently to the north. To the south, the land opens toward the Durance valley, with vineyards, orchards and farmland set in a regular pattern of fields and roads.
A Pertuis map poster brings together the tight, irregular historic core, the ring of boulevards around it and the looser growth outside. The result is well balanced, with the surrounding countryside pressing in from every side.

Wider roads loop around the centre, roughly following the line of the old ramparts. They give the town a clear outline on the map.
Durance plain
South of town, the land flattens toward the river, and fields and farm tracks fill the space. The composition opens out gradually toward the valley.
