Puçol lies in the Horta Nord, the farmland just north of Valencia, and its map has three clear layers. Inland is the historic centre, a tight knot of narrow streets. Around it are orderly blocks of newer housing. Beyond those, a patchwork of irrigated fields stretches toward the sea, where a separate beachfront area runs along the long, straight Mediterranean shore.
This gap between town and coast is typical of the area. The fields between them are divided by paths and irrigation channels that come from the old huerta system of market gardens and citrus groves. Rail lines and main roads heading north from Valencia run through the municipality, crossing the fields in long straight strokes.
