The road south
The highway toward Nauta leaves the city through this district. It is one of the few roads in the region and forms a long, clear line through the forest.

지도 소개
San Juan Map Poster & Print
San Juan Bautista is a district on the southern side of Iquitos, in Peru's Loreto region deep in the Amazon basin. On a map, the urban grid of the city runs into the surrounding rainforest. Blocks become fewer and roads longer until only a few routes lead out into the forest.
Iquitos is often described as the largest city in the world that cannot be reached by road. It relies instead on river and air travel. The one major road leaving the city heads south through this area toward the town of Nauta, and it appears on the map as a single long line through the forest.
A San Juan map poster shows the moment where a city meets the Amazon. The dense grid at the top gives way to scattered settlements and then to open space. The rivers of the region cross the landscape in wide, meandering curves, and the composition has an unusual feeling of distance from everything else.

Edge of the grid
The regular street blocks of Iquitos thin out here, becoming looser and more scattered as the city meets the surrounding rainforest.
Meandering rivers
The rivers of the Amazon basin wind through the flat land in loops and oxbows. Their curving lines contrast with the straight streets of the city.
