Termoli is the main coastal town of Molise, and its map is organised around a small headland pushing into the Adriatic. On that rock sits the Borgo Vecchio, the walled old village, with its cathedral and a Swabian castle associated with Frederick II. The harbour tucks in beside it, and from there the modern town spreads inland in a regular pattern of blocks.
The coastline shapes everything. Sandy beaches run north and south of the promontory in smooth curves, and the railway and coast road follow them closely.
