지도 소개
Volksrust Map Poster & Print
Volksrust lies on the high grassland of southern Mpumalanga, close to the border with KwaZulu-Natal. Its centre is a regular grid of streets and square blocks, a layout typical of South African towns founded in the nineteenth century. Around it the map opens onto wide, treeless veld, with the railway and main roads running through toward the coast and the interior.
The town was founded in the late 1880s, and its name means roughly the people's rest. It stands a short distance from Majuba Hill, where Boer forces defeated a British column in 1881, and from Laing's Nek, the pass over the escarpment. These landmarks give the area a significant place in South African history.
A Volksrust map poster shows the neat grid of the old town clearly, along with the railway and the townships and suburbs that have grown around it. The contrast between the orderly centre and the open highveld makes a strong, graphic print, with the straight lines of the grid standing out against empty space.

Highveld setting
Wide, open grassland surrounds the town, and high ground rises toward Majuba and the escarpment to the south, framing Volksrust in a spacious landscape.
