Xiangcheng is a county town in central Henan, southwest of Xuchang, on the wide plain that forms the heartland of the Central Plains. The ground is almost flat, and the map is dominated by straight lines: long avenues crossing at right angles, newer districts laid out in large blocks, and rural roads running out to villages in every direction.
This part of Henan has been settled for thousands of years, and Xiangcheng carries a long record in Chinese historical sources.
