From above, Achères sits where the Oise flows into the Seine, and the two rivers set the town's edges. The Seine curves along the south and east. On the other side, the dense woodland of the Forest of Saint-Germain-en-Laye makes a large blank area on the map, broken only by straight forest rides. Housing, rail yards and riverside land fill the space between.
The town has long been shaped by transport. Railway lines cross the commune in long parallel strokes, and Achères is a stop on the RER A, which connects it to central Paris.
