Arenys de Mar lies on the Catalan coast northeast of Barcelona, in the Maresme. Its map has a strong vertical axis. The coastline is almost straight here, with a railway and a coastal road running right along the shore. Inland, the town rises gently, and the streets become more irregular as they climb.
