Atuntaqui lies in the northern Ecuadorian Andes, in the province of Imbabura, between the cities of Ibarra and Otavalo. The town sits at high altitude in a broad valley. The town is best known for its textile and clothing industry. In the twentieth century the Imbabura textile factory was one of the largest in the country.
