Blankenfelde-Mahlow sits directly on Berlin's southern edge, and from above the join shows. The municipality was formed in 2003 by merging several older villages, including Blankenfelde, Mahlow and Dahlewitz. On the map they still read as separate clusters rather than one town.
The most legible line is the S-Bahn route running south from Berlin through Mahlow and Blankenfelde. Residential streets gather around the stations and then spread out in short loops and cul-de-sacs. Between the settlements the lines open up.
